Sound waves evoking lifelong learning

14th Biennial Australian National Conference of Orff Schulwerk January 8 - 13 2006

Workshop Jon Madin

Jon runs workshops in marimba making and playing, wacky instruments at schools, festivals and in communities. He has worked in all states of Australia and 8 other countries. He has available 3 books with CDs on marimba playing for kids, one book on marimba making and one on making wacky instruments. He is currently finishing another book called 'Marimba Songs' , pieces which combine marimba playing with singing. He is also working on designing the echocello, a new instrument -- a keyed, one-string, spring-resonated, cello that kids can obtain a pleasant sound from immediately.

Marimba Songs

Session Abstract

Jon will introduce everyone to some of his new pieces which combine marimba playing with singing in a variety of ways. Sometimes you sing a bit, play a bit, sometimes a few kids sing while all the others play, sometimes nearly everyone sings and only a few kids play etc. As with my other arrangements, there are usually some very easy parts so everyone can get started without too many dramas.

He will also have at least 15 echocellos for everyone to play on.
