Lecturer in Music Education – La Trobe University Bendigo since 1986. Composer of Cantatas, Songs, Rounds and Musicals for Children and Adults. Author of 4 widely used Orff/Kodaly round books – Hickety Pickety, Jingle with a Ball, On the Susso and Sing Hey! ‘Tis Spring. Founder of ‘The Bendigo Middle years Singers’, Yrs 5-8 Choir drawn from all government schools in the Bendigo region. Author of the new draft Gr 3 AMEB Theory and Musicianship workbook for teachers and students – currently being trialed in Brisbane. ‘Birdsongs’ Session Abstract Stephen Leek’s Birdsongs, originally written for unison choir and piano accompaniments have also been arranged for SATB choir A Capella. In this session we will sing a Treble only unaccompanied arrangement by Peter Butler. I will also discuss arranging and adapting unison songs for choirs using some other material especially written for the Bendigo Middle Years Singers, drawn originally from the Oxford ‘Voiceworks’ series. We will also sing some of my latest rounds. Some music reading experience would be beneficial, however there will be a part for everybody! |
