Dr Carol Richards is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle in Australia. She has taught music to all ages from 5- 50 over the past 33 years in schools, workshops, and professional development conferences in America and in Australia. She studied at Ball State University in 1970’s with William Wakeland and Arnold Burkhart and in 1980 at the Special English Course at the Orff Institute with Jane Frazee. She has served as President of the Victorian Orff Schulwerk Association and the President of the National Orff Schulwerk Association. She was editor of the Australian National Council of Orff Schulwerk’s journal, Musicworks for seven years. Her speciality is the Orff approach with older children. With her colleague, Neil Aubrey she collaborated on a Supplement, Sketches in Style, a resource aimed at introducing older children to stylistic features of a range of music using the Orff approach. In the past decade, she was instrumental in developing the guidelines for Orff Level Courses. She is a sought after presenter and teacher. |
