Stephen Leek, composer, conductor, facilitator and ar tistic motivator has been at the forefront of Australia’s developing musical tradition for over 20 years. His distinctive music enigmatically captures the rhythms, colours and ethos of Australia and Australians. He is a versatile composer much respected throughout the Australian and international community for his work that is suited to all ages and levels of technical skill. His output is prolific and in a straight- forward musical language which speaks directly, yet maintains an integrity that has seen it performed by leading musicians all over the world. Stephen Leek is in demand as a facilitator of compositional activity and workshops, which take creative arts experiences to the wider public. He has worked as composer- in- residence with many organisations and has also written numerous creative based composition kits which are used in schools, choirs and community groups across the nation. Stephen Leek has been recognised through many prestigious national awards and accolades for his major achievements in Australian music. He lives in Brisbane, where he is a founder, artistic director and conductor of the acclaimed choral ensemble, The Australian Voices – an ensemble of young adult voices who have a commitment to excellence and a mission to commission, premiere, perform, record and tour the work of Australian composers. Stephen Leek is currently a sessional lecturer in Improvisation and Composition at the Queensland Conservatorium, whilst at the same time he maintains a vigorous free-lance international profile through commissions, residencies and guest appearances |
